Cruise Control

rising up
caffeine breakfast cup
grind it through the working day – more pay
to blow on getting blown away
again the 9 to 5 stretches into 9 till 9

another microwave meal
can’t fill the hole that i feel
but every night it’s just the same
unfocused stare i can’t see
what’s showing on the tv
when i’m a thousand miles away

stuck in cruise control
stretching the distance but i’m going nowhere fast
though you might think i’m doing it in style
missing on the simple things will keep me up all night
common sense says “take it easy on yourself”
but that and management don’t sit on the same shelf
can’t resign – but you’re oh .. so .. tired

greyscale automaton
racking up the hours
too coarse a resolution
to see you from their ivory towers

another herbal remedy
suppress the edge, anxiety
the candle’s going up in flames
unfocused stare i can’t see
what’s left has redefined me
’cause i’m a thousand miles away

stuck in cruise control…
