aphid

life used to be so barren
but then the aphid was captured by a rose
when he was about to give up trying
from the desert, an oasis to behold
could not let the vision slip away
but the aphid to the rose did not know what to say
not well versed in romance
decided not to take a chance

consider then the aphid
living for the fragrance of a rose
... beneath attention

word traveled around quickly
about the aphid that aspired to love a rose
laughing stock of the whole garden
in the evening, the small one walked alone
could not let his feelings fall away
would not try to live for more than the day
asks himself what might have been
but a lowly insect is never seen

consider then the aphid
living for the fragrance of a rose
... beneath affection

but i could learn to become a butterfly
drifting in your garden would fulfil my wildest dream

the rose hearing all the whispers
asked a tulip, and was then detailed the joke
but the rose who could not see the humour
set out to find of whom the flower spoke
would not let this aphid steal away
she saw true love no matter what others would say
rescued him from the spiders' web
a broken heart mended when all was said

consider then the aphid
living for the fragrance of a rose
... beneath attention

consider then the aphid
captured by the fragrance of a rose
... had found affection

and i could learn to become a butterfly
drifting in your garden would fulfil my wildest dream
and now i float on the wings of a butterfly
i sing in your garden - the happiest i've ever been
